Detecting a gas leak is crucial for safety. A gas leak can be identified by a rotten egg smell, hissing sounds near gas lines, and physical symptoms like dizziness or headaches. Other signs include dead or dying plants near gas lines, bubbles in standing water, and unusually high gas bills. Don't use any electrical switches, appliances, or open flames as they could ignite the gas. If accessible, immediately shut off the gas valve. Contact the gas company (800-638-3278) and a professional to locate and repair the leak.
